Commander Sellgren was born in San
Diego, California  on March 10, 1938. He
received a  Bachelor of arts degree in
Economics from Stanford University. He
also holds a bachelor of Science degree in
Mechanical Engineering  from the US Naval
Postgraduate School and he is a graduate
of the Armed Forces Staff College and
Naval War College. Commander Sellgren
was commissioned July 14,1961 from
OCS. His tours include EMO and
Communications Officer, USS TUCKER(
DDR875 ); Operations officer USS
EVERSOLE (DD 789); XO USS PIVOT
(MSO 463); USS GALLUP (PG
85);Amphibious Warfare Project Officer.
Office of Naval Mobile Training Team HTMS
TAPI (PF 5): Operations Officer USS
BELKNAP (CG 26); XO, USS GLOVER
(AGDE 1); and Combat Information
Center, Electronics Warfare and
Engineering Readiness Officer, Commander
Amphibious Group Eastern Pacific Staff.
Commander Sellgren comes to command
USS THORN from Naval War College where
he graduated with distinction. His
decorations include the Bronze Star with
Combat "V" , Combat Action Ribbon,Navy
Unit Commendation, National Defense
Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four
Bronze Stars,and the Vietnam Campaign
Medal with Device. He is THORN'S first
Commanding Officer.
Commander Fahey was born in Gary,
Indiana on October 5, 1942. He attended
the University of Illinois and subsequently
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Applied Mathematics from the University of
Tennessee at Chatanooga in 1966. He
attended the Graduate School of Business
Administration at Michigan State University
prior to entering the Navy in 1967.
Commander Fahey was commissioned April
5, 1968 from OCS. He was a member of
Class 35 of the Naval Destroyer School. His
tours include Nuclear Power
School;Electronics Material Officer,USS
BRUMBY ( FF1044); Engineering Officer ,
USS PARLE (DE 708); Engineering Officer,
USS EDWARD McDONNELL (FF 1043);
Assistant Engineering Training Officer,
Commander Naval Air Force Atlanta Mobile
Training Team; and Main Propulsion
Assistant, U.S.S. JOHN F. Kennedy (CV
67).He has reported to U.S.S. THORN from
the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School where
he received a Master of Science degree in
Mechanical Engineering and was elected to
membership in Sigma Xi National Honorary
Society. He wears the Navy Commendation
Medal, the Battle Efficiency "E", the Sea
Service Deployment Ribbon and the National
Defence Ribbon. He is THORN'S first
Executive officer.
